This series of instant photographs was shot during a visit to Tokyo.

In 2008, 99% of the japanese corpses were cremated. Few bodies were buried under the tombstones. However, these are constructed to store the ashes of an entire family. The names engraved and painted red identify family members who are still alive. The ashes can be shared by the dead man’s family, stored in pots, boxes, or necklaces. Water of the last moment is the name given to the act of watering the deceased’s lips after his death.
